There are 2 ways to set a particle for an effect. But, we only recommand using Minecraft Keys. This is why the second way is not listed in this page.
You can use Minecraft Keys for particle effects. Type /particle command in your Minecraft world and see which particles you can use in your effects, or see:
Do not remove the minecraft: prefix from the particle key.
